This project, in memory of my wife, Charlotte Tsuei-yu Chen Ou of Mclean, Virginia, a lover of music and languages, was initiated with the simple goal of providing a resource for non-Taigi (Taiwanese spoken language) speaking individuals to learn to sing beautiful old Taiwanese songs. One hundred songs were selected from the old song book “ 台灣歌謠鄉土情”, Edited by 莊永明, 孫德銘; some forty children’s songs were also included for a total of 140 songs.
This project could not have been completed without he enthusiastic support and assistance of several Taiwanese American organizations and individuals (please see the list below) here in the United States and in our beloved homeland, Taiwan. I would like to express my special thanks to my dear friend, Philip Wu, an internationally known vocalist and Taiwanese song lover, for spending thousands of hours transcribing the musical notes and lyrics in Tailo on computer!
It is my sincere hope that this project will make a small contribution to the ultimate goal of preserving spoken Taiwanese (Taigi) in a permanent digital format.
